We set off south again today, heading towards the Great Ocean Road.

Within a couple of minutes of leaving the campsite, we’d left South Australia and entered our fourth Australian state, Victoria.

Again, much of the scenery on the drive was quite mundane, being either wooded areas or agricultural land.

We broke the journey with a couple of stops. The first was at Cape Bridgewater, which was a small town on a massive bay. The scenery was superb, with miles and miles of surf.

We even got to see a flock of seagulls practicing at lining up in parade formation.

Several kilometres down the road, we stopped at Port Fairy. We don’t believe in fairies (hopefully that finally got Tinkerbell – die you irritating flyie thing!), but the town itself was lovely. Again, seemed very “millionaire row-ish” with expensive yachts on the river. We found a scenic place right next to a secluded beach to have a break at, with yet again scenery to die for.

Driving through the large town of Warrnambool, we finally reached the Great Ocean Road.

For the first twenty minutes on this, we thought someone had been ironic in naming it. Where was the ocean!

Then we turned a bend, to see the sort of coastal splendour that would make you sell up everything you had, buy a comfy chair, grow a beard, and spend the rest of your life staring at.

This was an area called the Bay of Islands and was simply breathtaking. The noise of the waves crashing against the rocks added to the charm of the view.

We decided that this would make a very good place to stay, so headed to a small town called Peterborough five kilometres down the road, where we found a pitch at the excellent Great Ocean Road Tourist Park. We could still hear the waves crashing against the cliffs from our campervan pitch, which added a bit of magic to the campsite.

After dinner, we turned the campervan into a movie theatre, this time watching one of our favourite movies from the nineties, Point Break. We’d already seen the areas in California that most of the movie was set in three years ago; tomorrow we’ll be seeing Bells Beach where the end sequence is set!
